Before Surgery

Before surgery, your pet will be screened and anesthetics will be hand-selected depending on your pet’s breed, age, health, and other factors. Blood tests may also be done to confirm your pet’s liver, heart, and kidneys are functioning properly and your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia.

During Surgery

During surgery, we have a medically trained staff member solely responsible for monitoring your pet’s vital signs. Their main priority is supervising your pet’s heart rate and rhythm, respiratory functions, body temperature, and maintaining proper oxygen levels for your pet.

We believe it’s important to keep a line of communication open with you every step of the way. Dental care is an important part of your pet’s wellness care, and professional dental treatments are among the most common procedures we perform for both cats and dogs. At Buckley Veterinary Hospital, we will perform a thorough dental examination during your pet’s annual wellness exam.

Professional Preventative Dental Care For Your Pet

Our professional dental care includes complete ultrasonic scaling, root planing, polishing, and extractions as needed. We place your pet under anesthesia and remove plaque and tartar using hand instruments and power scaling equipment (just like your dentist does!). We give your pet’s teeth a thorough ultrasonic cleaning and polishing. We will perform a comprehensive oral exam and check each tooth for movement, gingival pockets, fractures, malocclusion, and periodontal disease, and perform dental x-rays.

Preventative Non-Anesthetic Dental Cleaning

At-Home Pet Dental Care

We also recommend regular home care to prevent the buildup of plaque on your pet’s teeth. Nowadays, there are several products available to help keep plaque to a minimum. Plaque, which is an accumulation of bacteria, can progress to periodontitis, which is characterized by pockets of chronic infection, oral pain, and severe infections. Digital Radiology

X-rays are the most common imaging tool we use to examine your dog or cat’s organs and their cardiopulmonary, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary systems. This is a non-invasive procedure allowing the veterinarian to get a better look at the conditions affecting your pet.
There are many benefits to using digital x-rays over film x-rays. Digital x-rays have a higher image quality compared to traditional x-rays, making it much easier to view and interpret. These images are instantly available to the veterinarian, which means less time away from your pet and a faster, more accurate diagnosis. There is also lessened exposure to radiation with digital radiology thanks to computer – and it’s more environmentally friendly!

Your Puppy’s First Visit

We ask that you bring the health information provided to you by the seller or shelter on your first visit with us, which should include a previous history of vaccines and deworming, as well as a fresh stool sample(ideally less than 12 hours old). Please bring your puppy on a leash or in a dog carrier.
At your puppy’s first visit with us, we will perform a comprehensive examination and check for internal and external parasites.
